In November 2023, a powerful storm hit Florida’s Keys, causing widespread flooding and significant damage. Jimmy Johnson’s Big Chill in Key Largo was one of the many properties that was significantly affected after the storm. Step-by-Step Restoration Process
Our restoration efforts at Jimmy Johnson’s Big Chill can be divided into three major tasks: shrink wrap installation, restoration of the guest units, and water mitigation in the pizzeria. Here’s a detailed look at our job at this popular Key Largo venue.
Step 1: Shrink Wrap Installation
The main priority was to protect the property from further water intrusion, so we installed a shrink wrap in three separate sections of the roof.
The measurements for these sections were 50×29 feet, 23×45 feet, and 46×32 feet, which were secured with 33 furring strips to ensure stability and effectiveness.
This crucial step prevented additional water from seeping into the building, allowing us to work on the interior without worrying about further damage coming from the roof.
Step 2: Restoring the Guest Units
Next, we addressed the water damage in the six guest units on the second floor. We began by carefully removing all wet drywall to prevent mold growth and further structural damage. During this process, we discovered mold behind some of the damaged baseboards, which needed immediate remediation.
We tackled visible mold by demolishing affected areas and ensuring thorough cleaning and treatment. Dehumidifiers and air purifiers were also installed in the units to dry them out.
Additionally, an external company assisted with the removal of damaged floors, ensuring comprehensive restoration of the units.
Step 3: Water Mitigation in the Pizzeria
Finally, we performed a water mitigation in the pizzeria. Our team carefully inspected the area to determine the best course of action and installed dehumidifiers and air purifiers in the reception area, kitchen, two bars, and common area to remove moisture and improve air quality.
By placing equipment strategically, our team ensured that all areas were completely dried to prevent further damage and mold growth.
